Sahadeva, the Pandava with Immense knowledge and patience

A very little consideration is paid to Sahadeva when it, we see the old epic Mahabharata and Pandavas, but if we see an older manuscripts, he was the wisest of all Pandavas and he was the one who knows about the upcoming future and happiness, he knows the death of his own son, but just because of some conditions that he kept mum. Some parts of this story do not agree with overall Mahabharata, which we know, such as at the time of Pandu’s (The father of Pandavas) death, Lord Krishna was a simple baby, but still, this narration makes an interesting story.

Early life of Pandavas

When the Pandavas were kids, their father Pandu and the mother of them, Madri, Kunti lived in exile in a forest. Pandu took his sons up in a private ascetic atmosphere, with only elders and every day Pandu would explain his sons on how to be men of honor.

Pandu tells little Sahadeva to eat his father’s brain

A day Pandu told  Sahadev to sit on his knee and said: “When I die, you must eat my brain. He also said that only then you will be able to know all about this world.” Sahadev looked at his father with expanded eyes and decided to eat his father’s brain. When Pandu died, Madri accepted death so that she could accompany her husband to the next zone. As Pandu placed in his furnace, the Pandava brothers stood with Kunti and witnessed the happing’s.

Sahadeva follows his father’s orders

When the body of Pandu was burning the head busted from the heat, Sahadev saw his father’s brain. Sahadeva knew that he had to eat the brain of his father. Without a word, Sahadev ran up to the flame and reached to get his father’s brain. When the other Pandavas shouted, and tried to stop him.

Lord Krishna intellects this tragedy

Lord Krishna was out of Mathura but he got to know about the happening. He also knew that if Sahadeva accomplished to do what he wanted, it would be a disaster. He took the form of an old wise man and demonstrated himself near where Pandu’s body burned and ruined.

He becomes Trikal gyani (one who knows Past, Present & Future)

Then Sahadeva had already taken a bite of his father’s brain. And with that, bite he became enlightened about all that had happened in the history of the world. In a second bite, he knew about all that what is happening in the world. And the third bite, he became enlightened about what will happen in future. Sahadev became ‘Trikalgyani’ – a person who knows Past, Present, and Future – and even though he was only a young person who understood that the old wise, the man was himself, Lord Krishna.

Lord Krishna advises him to keep quiet

Lord Krishna got to know all, the fact and realized that it was too late. Then Lord Krishna advised him that if you know something. “You must never reveal what you know,”.Sahadeva asked Lord, “What if someone asks me? I can’t tell lies. Then the Lord said that “If someone asks, then you may tell the truth, but never tell them anything additionally. And never tell anyone that you know so much.”

Sahadeva’s masterstroke

Sahadev agreed and asked Lord Krishna something in return. He said – “Alright. But you have to agree to my appeal to.” Sahadev asked him “What appeal is that?”-Lord Krishna said  “That you will always protect Pandavas. And if any one of us dies, then you must admit death too.” Krishna narrowed his eyes and thought that he is a wise man.

Sahadeva Intelligence

So all of his life, Sahadeva knew all the things which took place in life. He knew Varnavat fire strategy which  Duryodhan was planning, he knew about the political aspirations of Duryodhana and the Kauravas,  He knew about the loaded dice in the betting match, he recognized what would occur to Draupadi in that betting hall, he knows about the death of everyone in the war. He knew that Ashwathama would kill the Pandava children counting his own.

He recognized all these awful things, but he could not ever tell anyone. Not even his brothers, not even his wife Draupadi, who is blessed with a power that she knew everyone’s secrets. The only person knows about Sahadev is none other than Lord Krishna.

Shri Krishna and Pandavas

Only just because of these reasons he considered as a wise amongst all as he got to know that keeping mum and welcoming others to speak is given pleasure. Imagine the strength that must have taken. Rather, he knows what disasters will take place in life, but not to speak about it. This how he called the most enduring men in the world that he had the power to manage and be in self-control.

Simultaneously, because he had made Krishna agree to his appeal, he knew that no harm would ever come to the Pandavas themselves. Krishna would face death himself if he could not protect the Pandavas

This was the masterstroke from Sahadev to guard himself and his brothers.
