He observed around to find out who had shot the bird. He saw a person (hunter) with a bow and arrows, nearby. Valmiki became very annoyed. His lips unlocked and he uttered the following words:

“म ां निष द प्रनिष् ां त्वमगमः श श्वि ः सम ः। यत्क्रांचनमथुि देकम्अवध ः क ममोनििम्”

“You will find no rest for the long years of infinity for you killed a bird in love and unsuspicious” developing naturally from his rage and grief, this was the first śloka in Sanskrit literature.

Later valmiki composed the entire Ramayana with the blessings of Lord Brahma in the same rhythm that issued forth from him as the śloka. This śloka is admired as the “first śloka” in  Hindi literature. Valmiki is revered as the first poet, or Adi kavi, and the Ramayana as a the first kavya. Valmiki’s epic vision :

When the legendary wise Narada came to his hermitage, Valmiki who received him with due integrity, modelled a question – who was a flawless man?

The reply came from Narada in the form of Samkshepa Ramayan ,which made the foundation on which the wonderful 24,000 verse organization was made by valmiki. Then, engrossed deep into this story, valmiki left for the river tamasa with his follower Bharadwaj. The pleasant and placid river retold the seer of the mature and modest quality of his hero. He imagined a pure and pious man’s mind imitated in the deep waters. In the next immediate he witnessed a heartless hunter hardheartedly killing a male bird that was in love with its mate. The pathetic wailing of the troubled female moved the heart of the sage so much that he impulsively expressed a curse on the hunter.

This curse came out of his mouth in the form of a ‘sloka’, a flawlessly metrical composition, which surprised the sage himself: “no – you shall not command any respect in society for a long time as you have shot dead a blameless bird absorbed in love”. The sage had twisted into a writer.
